A 13-year-old boy is facing a felony charge after he pointed a laser at a police helicopter in Florida on Thursday. The boy admitted to intentionally shining the laser because he was “bored.” The helicopter was flying over the area of 7th Street Northwest and 11th Avenue when a green laser was pointed at the aircraft. The deputies in the helicopter maintained visual contact with the suspect and directed officers on the ground to his location. “Get up and get somebody to go get this guy. He’s blinding our pilot,” a deputy can be heard saying in body camera video released by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, which can be seen in the gallery above . Deputies on the ground made contact with the suspect, identified as 13-year-old Josiah Sullivan. The teen “admitted to intentionally illuminating the helicopter with the laser lighting device because he was bored,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release . The laser, which was in his front jacket pocket, was seized. While in the back of a patrol car, the boy said he “did not know it was a police helicopter.” Josiah was “arrested and charged with felony misuse of laser lighting device,” the sheriff’s office said. He was later “transported to the Pinellas County Juvenile Assessment Center.” In Florida, it is a third-degree felony for “any person who willfully and intentionally shines or points a laser lighting device at an individual who is operating a motor vehicle, watercraft, or aircraft,” the sheriff’s office said. The incident remains under investigation. Read Also: US: Memphis party shooting leaves 2 dead, 6 injured (Portuguese version)
