Hovers near death after treating cancer with juices and holistic therapies
The woman ignored the advice of health professionals and opted to follow alternative therapies, after having seen “reports of its success rate” on the Internet.

A 39-year-old woman nearly died trying to cure her cancer with a juice diet and holistic therapies, and is now warning others not to ignore medical advice.
Irena Stoynova, from Crondall, Hampshire, spent £2,000 on juices and would spend up to three hours a day making liquid meals in the belief it would cure her of the non-Hodgkin lymphoma she was diagnosed with in June 2021.
She ignored medics' advice and opted for alternative therapies after seeing "success stories" online, Sky News reports.
She followed a juice diet for two-and-a-half years, and also tried a raw food diet, intermittent fasting, herbal tinctures and special teas.
Irena was following the advice of an influencer with hundreds of thousands of followers on social media, who claimed the body can heal itself through radical lifestyle and dietary changes.
"I didn't stop, I was so weak. I had sleep deprivation, hallucinations. I didn't have the power to open the fridge door. I couldn't breathe because I had fluid in my lungs. I lost about 20kg because of the diet," she said.
Medics said Irena was close to death when she was rushed to Frimley Park Hospital by ambulance in May last year. She was told she would die without treatment for her stage three cancer - but she stubbornly refused chemotherapy.
After 10 days in hospital and "frustrating" conversations, she finally agreed to have chemotherapy.
"I tell people now the side effects of chemo are a piece of cake compared to the side effects I had with the holistic treatment. It's great to have beliefs, if they are backed up by science. Please don't detach yourself from doctors. I detached myself from doctors and everything conventional and I nearly died," she said.
