A JetBlue plane nearly collided with a Southwest Airlines plane at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.
Southwest Flight 2937 was cleared by air traffic control to taxi onto the airport's Runway 4 as JetBlue Flight 1554 began its takeoff roll on the same runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, NBC News reported . " JetBlue 1554, stop! Southwest, stop! Southwest 2937, stop!" a voice can be heard shouting on air traffic control audio captured by the website LiveATC. The planes came within 1,000 feet of each other, a source told NBC News. JetBlue said its flight to Boston aborted its takeoff because of the incident, and no injuries were reported among its passengers. The plane was inspected before taking off again. " Safety is JetBlue's first priority, and we will cooperate fully with the Federal authorities" in their investigation, the airline said. Southwest said it is working with the agency "to understand the circumstances" of the incident. See Also: Southwest Airlines Boeing loses engine cover during takeoff (Portuguese version)
