FC Porto "have nothing to lose" in the I Liga football classic, but Sporting have "room" to play with the "anxiety" of the 'dragons', considers former goalkeeper of both clubs Beto Pimparel.

The two teams have "very different states of mind and spirits," the former player highlighted to the Lusa agency, but although the "moment of form" may be important "depending on the events and the direction of the game," FC Porto, "in a weaker moment," plays "with its pride, with its audience," and "doesn't want to disappoint expectations." "I believe it will be a great game because FC Porto has nothing to lose. The team will have to play, as always, to win, perhaps even in a more uninhibited way, and Sporting will have a more strategic role," he analyzed. For the 'blue and whites,' "nothing but prestige" will be at stake, while the 'green and whites' are experiencing a moment of "much greater emotional peace" to manage events. "Sporting will have a much more strategic role, it has much more room, it can play several types of games and with that anxiety of FC Porto, which has to win for a question of mystique and pride," explained Beto, who will turn 42 on May 1, three days after the classic at the Estádio do Dragão. In the service of the 'dragons,' the former Portuguese international celebrated the conquest of a title on the field of a rival, Benfica, in 2011, and Sporting may even do the same on Sunday, if it wins in Porto and the 'incarnates' lose at home to Sporting de Braga, on Saturday, but that will not be "the main focus" of the team led by Rúben Amorim. "Perhaps, in the intrinsic nature of the players, celebrating a title at the home of an eternal rival could be an extra ingredient. Honestly, it doesn't seem to me that this is Sporting's goal, to celebrate exclusively at the Estádio do Dragão. Sporting wants to celebrate the title as quickly as possible," he assumed. On the other hand, the two teams could start the match with different goalkeepers from those who played in the first round, at the Estádio José Alvalade, in Sporting's 2-0 victory, when Antonio Adán 'held' the 'lions' nets and Diogo Costa played for the 'portistas.' However, both the Spaniard and the Portuguese international continue to recover from muscle injuries and, although Diogo Costa is still a possibility for FC Porto, Beto admitted that the possible absence "is a significant loss," but he stressed that "the quality of Cláudio Ramos," the usual substitute for Sérgio Conceição's team, "is not in question." "Cláudio is now having this sequence of games and, if he has to be called to play FC Porto-Sporting, he will give his best. He will be extra motivated and it will not be through him that Sporting can have an advantage," he told the Lusa agency. Franco Israel "has this sequence [of games] and the confidence of the technical team" of Sporting, in addition to a "dynamic with the team that is absolutely fundamental" for the "growth and affirmation" in the 'lion' goal. "Franco has already had a derby [with Benfica], he has already had international games, he already has a little more sequence of games and that confidence also from the coach. Because it is not the same thing to know that the goalkeeper who is normally the starter is about to return and everything you do can influence the coach's decision," explained Beto Pimparel. Beto Pimparel trained as a goalkeeper at Sporting and began his senior career in the club's B team, but only represented the main team in 2016/17, in nine matches, after stints at several other national and foreign clubs, including FC Porto. He represented the 'dragons' in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, during which he wore the 'blue and white' jersey on 25 occasions. FC Porto hosts Sporting on Sunday, in a match of the 31st round of the Portuguese I League, scheduled to start at 8:30 pm, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto.
The 'lions' lead the championship with 80 points, seven more than Benfica, and are two victories away from winning the 20th national championship title in their history, while the 'dragons' follow in third place, 18 points behind the leader, with the same 62 points as Sporting de Braga, fourth place.
