Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa gave an extensive interview to the Wednesday edition of the newspaper O Jogo, in which he once again pointed the finger at André Villas-Boas, one of the opponents he will face in the elections next Saturday.

""When I saw who was there at the presentation, I saw people who are enemies of FC Porto, I only saw resentful people, I only saw people who have never done anything for FC Porto, who are totally unknown. It is obvious that I could not support it", began by stating the current president of FC Porto. I remind you that I only ran after Villas-Boas", he said.

"I still admitted, and I was hoping, that he would surround himself with people from FC Porto, capable of continuing the victories and the management of these 42 years. When I saw that it was not like that, I decided to run, sacrificing my life, my family, who were against my candidacy, because they did not trust at all what I was seeing. And I was right", he added.

The president of FC Porto also warned of the dangers of his opponent succeeding him in office: "There was only one thing I was afraid of, that the club would come out of the hands of the members, with the sale of shares, as happened at Sporting de Braga, because they are the same ones who handled that business that are behind this candidacy. So, I would have, it is not fear, I would have a huge weight on my conscience if I had not run, when that happened".

When asked about the fact that the candidate from List B has already made it known, publicly, that, if elected, he will not receive any type of remuneration, the top leader of the blue and white team recalled that Luís Filipe Vieira, former president of Benfica, "also was not".

"I mean, sometimes it gives bad results. Maybe he is rich enough, and it is natural, because he received small fortunes in several dismissals, and, of course, if, I don't know if he has, but if, for example, he had money in Uruguay, he would earn a lot of money, he would save a lot of money in taxes", he said.

Finally, Pinto da Costa pointed to the Champions League final as one of the objectives for the next term: "It seems impossible. But, if we had had that luck that is always needed in taking penalties, if we had eliminated Arsenal, I think we could have been in the final this year".

"We were not able to overcome that detail and we fell by the wayside. But my goal, our goal, is to be in a European final again. And then, when you are in a final, it is always to try to win, because, whatever the opponent, it is always 50-50 odds", he added.
