Botafogo's assertive start was worth two goals in quick succession, in the fourth and ninth minutes, the first by Júnior Santos, and the second by Tiquinho Soares, ex-FC Porto, in the execution of a penalty.

Things got even worse for Juventude from the 38th minute, when the central Lucas Freitas saw the red card, for accumulation of yellows, following two gross fouls.

The team now led by the ex-coach of Sporting de Braga conveniently exploited the numerical superiority to fatten the result, with the midfielder Danilo Barbosa, who represented Benfica and also the Braga team, 'signing' the third goal, in the 54th minute, putting a pass from Júnior Santos in the back of the net.

The offensive voracity of 'Fogão' continued to bear fruit, with Jefferson Savarino scoring the fourth goal and Jacobe Montes, who had been put on the field by Artur Jorge in the 72nd, the fifth, in the 81st, with Danilo Boza scoring the goal of honour for Juventude, in the 85th.

In the match that raised the greatest expectation of the third round, between Palmeiras, coached by Abel Ferreira, and Flamengo, two of the main candidates for the title, there were no goals, although the São Paulo team had put the ball in the opponent's goal in the 89th minute, by the Argentine midfielder Aníbal Moreno, but the referee did not validate the move for offside.

After three rounds, the Brasileirão is led by Bragantino, coached by the Portuguese Pedro Caixinha, and by Flamengo, both with seven points, followed by a quartet formed by Botafogo, Athletico Paranaense, Grêmio and Internacional, all with six, while the title holder, Palmeiras, follows in 12th place, with four.
