"An annual session is clearly not enough. Two are not enough. At least one ordinary quarterly meeting is justified. The Superior Council can be that connecting body, which allows for the connection between members and the management without any type of constraint. In qualitative terms, it is the work that remains to be done, aside from the statutory issue", said the lawyer and university professor, in an interview with the Lusa agency.

With 26 men and four women, the list "For a greater, more united, unsubmissive and eclectic FC Porto" is based on a "vision of the passionate Porto fan", reflecting a mode of action that is "clearly disruptive" in the last term in view of the "formal role" of the Superior Council.

"We believe that the members will know how to recognise this equidistant position of ours with regard to the management and reinforcement of a journey that began four years ago, in the sense of invigorating a fundamental body in the life of the club. That translates into something very simple: four years ago, the first question was: 'what is the Superior Council?'. Fortunately, today nobody asks that anymore", said Luís Folhadela Rebelo, number two on list D.

In 2020, in the first FC Porto elections with more than one candidacy since 1991, the movement obtained 1,302 votes (16.12% of the total) and reached three of the 20 effective seats on the only non-executive body, which also includes 10 substitutes, by the Hondt method.

"Without wanting to quantify or make predictions, since the reality of these elections will be significantly different from that of 2020, our expectations are to assert the strength of our ideas, so that we are capably represented and contribute to the well-being of the club", explained Miguel Brás da Cunha, whose election had been flanked by Luís Folhadela Rebelo and Avelino Oliveira, absent from the current candidacy.

Despite feeling "capable of participating at another level in the management of the club", the group of associates is once again only contesting the Superior Council due to a "question of context", seeing the proximity of the competition to its proposals as a "great victory".

"There is the possibility that, by intervening at the level of the Superior Council, we will have a very relevant role in what is fundamental for FC Porto to continue to assert itself as a leading club and for this climate of polarisation that we see today to be overcome, but which is absolutely necessary to disappear on 28 April", he stated.

The candidacies of current president Pinto da Costa and André Villas-Boas will also contest the consultative body, unlike Nuno Lobo's list, with Miguel Brás da Cunha praising the plurality of visions for the future of the club as "very healthy".

"We have only one common good, which is FC Porto. There are different ways of thinking, but there can be no opposition or factions. I hope that we can quickly assert what has always been a strength of FC Porto, which is the unity of its associates, and that this vision of a political party disappears. Honestly, it harms the club a lot", he noted.

Displeased with the "personal attacks, demagogic arguments and accusations against great Porto references" seen during the electoral campaign, Luís Folhadela Rebelo trusts that the Superior Council "can be crucial" for exploring the potential of FC Porto.

"We will work for the greatness and growth of this club with whoever the members decide. We are uncompromising about this. The enemies we have outside are enough without us now getting involved in internal squabbles, when, at the end of the day, we all want the same thing, which is victories and the growth of this universe", he concluded.
