Pep Guardiola took advantage of this Friday's press conference ahead of the highly anticipated FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea to put everything on the table with Cole Palmer.

The England international accused the Citizens coach of giving him an ultimatum, telling him "Either you stay or you're sold", which is why he ended up leaving for Chelsea in the last summer transfer market, in exchange for almost 50 million euros. However, the Spaniard warned that it was not quite like that.

"He is an exceptional player. We knew that when he was here. But I have said many times that I did not give him the minutes that he perhaps deserved or that he has now at Chelsea," he began by saying, in statements reproduced by the British television station Sky Sports.

"I'm happy for him. He's a lovely guy, shy, with incredible potential. He's an incredible threat, he's playing fantastically. Two seasons ago he was asking to leave. I said 'No, stay, stay'", he continued.

"In the end, he said 'No, I want to leave'. What can I do? In pre-season, I said 'Stay, because Riyad [Mahrez] is gone', and he said 'No, I want to leave'. After two seasons what can I say? Playing at that level is exceptional. Everyone knows that", he added.
