The oldest men's world record in athletics, which had stood since Sunday, fell once and for all during a discus throw competition held in Ramona, in the US state of Oklahoma.

Mykolas Alekna, a 21-year-old Lithuanian, threw the object 74.35 meters away, which allowed him to surpass the record set by German Jurgen Schult in June... 1986, of 74.08 meters. This record had been in effect for almost 38 years.

The young prodigy is the son of Virgilijus Alekna, the man who won gold medals in this event at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games and who holds the third best throw in history, of 73.88 meters.

Mykolas Alekna will compete in the first Olympic Games of his still 'young' career next summer, in Paris, where he will dethrone the hegemony of Swedish Daniel Stahl, the current world champion.
