Ex-Benfica and Sp. Braga sentenced to five years in prison

The Argentine Justice sentenced, this Tuesday, to a five-year prison sentence Óscar Benítez, a player who was contractually linked to Benfica, between 2016 and 2020, with a loan to Sporting de Braga in between.

According to information provided by the newspaper La Nación, the 31-year-old striker was found guilty of the crimes of damage, disobedience and possession of a firearm by the Lomas De Zamora Court, after being reported by the family of his former partner, Anabelia Ayala.

Between 2021 and 2023, Óscar Benítez was investigated for four episodes of domestic violence against the woman, who ended her own life, one day after he visited her, violating the restraining order that had been applied to him.

In January, less than two weeks after the death, the player (who also represented clubs such as Boca Juniors or Lanús) was arrested, until now, when he was tried.
