UEFA announced this Tuesday the appointments for the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, with Michael Oliver being appointed to Benfica-Olympique Marseille, at Estádio da Luz, scheduled for this Thursday.

The English referee does not bring good memories to the incarnates, since, in a history of three games, the Luz emblem has never won. After the defeat in the Europa League round of 16 in 2018/19, against Dinamo Zagreb (1-0), Michael Oliver was once again appointed for an eagles match twice more in the Roger Schmidt era, both last season, with a draw against Paris SG (1-1) and the defeat against Inter (0-2) - the eagles' only defeat in that edition of the Champions League.

It is worth mentioning that the 39-year-old referee has already refereed Sporting and Sporting de Braga matches this season, and the Portuguese teams did not smile either, due to the defeat of the bracarenses against Real Madrid (1-2) in the group stage of the Champions League, followed by Sporting's draw when visiting Atalanta's stadium (1-1), in group D of the Europa League.

Michael Oliver will have Stuart Brut and Daniel Cook as assistant referees, with Andrew Madley as the fourth referee. Chris Kavanagh will be in the video referee, with the help of Jarred Gavan Gillett. The kick-off is scheduled for 8 pm (mainland Portugal time) this Thursday.
