Estoril Open: Hurkacz dismisses Garín and becomes the first finalist
Hubert Hurkacz of Poland, world number 10, will contest the 10th final of his career, the first on clay, at the Estoril Open, after defeating Chilean Cristian Garin in the semifinals at the Clube de Ténis do Estoril.

In a packed 'court' central to watch the first semi-final of today's round, the tournament's second seed needed three sets, with partial scores of 6-3, 3-6 and 6-3, to eliminate the South American, Nuno Borges' executioner in the quarter-finals, and make his debut in a final played on clay.
Hurkacz, 27, started the game better and, thanks to a 'break' in the second game, gained an advantage on the scoreboard and ascendancy over his opponent, who still had two 'break' points in the seventh game and saved two 'set points', but was unable to reverse the course of the set.
In the second match, Garín reacted in the best way, became more aggressive and, managing to displace his opponent more on the brick dust, took a single break of serve in the second game, enough to equal the first duel between them.
Going up to the net whenever possible and playing more inside the 'court', the discreet Pole entered the decisive set stronger and, despite having allowed the South American to recover, when he held a 5-1 advantage, sealed the triumph after one hour and 59 minutes.
Contrary to the statistics of this season of 26 'tie-breaks' in 26 matches, Hubert Hurkacz managed to secure the victory in three sets without being forced to play a 'tie-break' at the Estoril Tennis Club, where he was present today, among other well-known figures, the president of the Portuguese Professional Football League, Pedro Proença, the 'extremely unpleasant' Joana Marques and the singer Carlão.
Guaranteed his debut in the final of the Portuguese ATP, the holder of seven ATP titles, the last of which was the Masters 1,000 in Shanghai, in 2023, awaits the winner of the match between the Spaniard Pedro Martínez and the Norwegian Casper Ruud, the defending champion, to find out his final opponent.
