Nuno Borges said goodbye, this Friday, to this year's edition of the Estoril Open, after being eliminated by Cristian Garín in the tournament's quarter-finals, in a game that was marked by controversy in the middle of the second set.

The Portuguese tennis player says he lived the most bizarre moment of his career today, considering that he was the victim of an error by Christian Rask, the chair umpire.

"To be honest, I left there without understanding what his judgment was because in my opinion there was no doubt. I am sure that the referee knows that he made a mistake and sooner or later he will come to make me understand that it was nothing more than a misunderstanding. It happens, but it is only to ensure that the situation is well resolved and does not happen again", began by saying Nuno Borges at a press conference.

"Two games later there was someone who called a ball, sometimes it is not out, it is an ah, and that is not why the point stops. At that moment we both felt something, we looked at each other, it was bizarre, nothing like this had ever happened to me. He himself could not explain it perfectly. He did not get the complete idea of the situation", he continued.

"Garín? He could have said to repeat the point because it would be the right thing to do, but I cannot blame him. Maybe I would have done the same, I don't know what I would have done in his place. I'm still processing everything that happened. The fault was actually the referee's. Even if Garín had said he wanted to repeat the point, the referee could say that he maintained the decision. Not even the supervisor was able to bring him clarification", stressed the maiato.

"I don't think he was particularly well. The fault was not his. He just did the work to win the point, which was to keep as quiet as possible. The referee thought the ball was good, that right. He looked at me and him and didn't even look at the ball, but he had line judges for that. I called him to clarify, it was not to say 'what are you doing?'. It was just to confirm that the ball was out, and he said yes, but it was because I had stopped. The referee thought it was good and I thought he would change his mind when he saw that he didn't", he concluded.
