Promoted by Évora_27, in partnership with the University of Évora, the Pro-Évora Group and the Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites precincts in England, the meeting is scheduled for September 21, in the Alentejo city.

"The Alentejo gives us a lot of information about the importance of preservation and of a memory of a past of humanity and also a lot of awareness of the present and the future", said today to the Lusa agency the coordinator of Évora_27, Paula Mota Garcia.

This Thursday, coinciding with the commemorations of Europe Day, the Alentejo city will receive a team of specialists from the Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites precincts for a visit and a preparation meeting for the international meeting.

According to the coordinator of Évora_27, the initiative planned for September aims to contribute to a reflection on how humanity "can also come together and unite from the legacy of megalithic archaeology".

"We are going to celebrate this idea of, from megalithism, being able to talk and be together, almost as if this archaeological data were a universal language", stressed the person in charge.

On the other hand, she pointed out, the international meeting also aims to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the Almendres Cromlech and the Zambujeiro Great Dolmen, both located near Évora.

Paula Mota Garcia stressed that the megalithism of the Alentejo also contributed to the definition of the concept "Vagar" of the European Capital of Culture and is "an important part of the artistic and cultural program of Évora_27".

The international meeting on megalithism planned for September is part of the "Solos para o Sol" project, led by the Monte da Amorada association, and is part of the cultural and artistic program of Évora_27.

The initiative will have the participation of archaeologists, philosophers, anthropologists, historians and people interested in the theme to reflect on the future of this heritage and in particular its relationship with the concept "Vagar".

"Solos para o Sol" is a co-production of E´vora_27, Lyon Dance Biennial and other partners, for which several choreographers will be invited to celebrate the megalithic heritage of the Alentejo through its relationship with other peoples and with the sunrise.

The premiere of the dance show "Solos para o Sol" is scheduled for 2027, in four places associated with European megalithic heritage, which will be announced later.
