The US Congress approved this Tuesday, the 23rd, the legislation that aims to ban TikTok in the North American territory if those responsible for the platform do not cut ties with the Chinese company ByteDance.
With over 170 million users in the US alone, the prospect of TikTok may be hard to imagine, but luckily for content creators, there is still a way for the social network to remain available.
If President Joe Biden decides to enact the legislation, ByteDance will have nine months to sell TikTok - and will still be entitled to a three-month extension if the deal is already underway. Otherwise, Google and Apple will have to remove TikTok from their respective app stores.
Before this approval of the legislation by the US Congress, TikTok had already spoken out about the prospect of the app being banned and stated that it is a "violation of freedom of expression" of users.
