With this vote, presented by the Chega Parliamentary Group, the Assembly of the Republic "expresses its deep sorrow for the death of Pedro Cruz, and extends its deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends".

The text recalls the professional career of Pedro Cruz, who worked for media outlets such as SIC or TSF and was more recently in the management of Global Media.

"Throughout his career, Pedro Cruz became an unavoidable reference in journalism in Portugal, known not only for his ability to conduct and coordinate news programs, but also for his courage and dedication in covering global conflicts", it reads, recalling that he covered conflict scenarios such as Kosovo, Syria, Albania, Haiti or Lebanon and, more recently, Ukraine.

The parliament also considers that "Pedro Cruz will be remembered not only as an exceptional journalist, but as a mentor and inspiration for many who had the privilege of working alongside him".

"His death is an irreparable loss for Portuguese and international journalism, but his legacy and the standards he set will certainly continue to influence future generations of journalists", argue the deputies, who emphasize "that his commitment to the truth and his courage in giving a voice to the voiceless will remain as an effective symbol of journalistic integrity".

Journalist Pedro Cruz died on Sunday, at the age of 53, victim of lung cancer, at the CUF Tejo hospital, in Lisbon.

Pedro Cruz was currently in the management of Global Media and was also director of TSF radio. He stood out in the service of SIC, where he worked from the end of the 90s (1998/99) until 2021 and held the positions of coordinator of the Porto newsroom and deputy director of information for the channel.

The areas of politics and international affairs were those that he followed most closely, having been present in several situations of international conflict and tension, namely Kosovo, Syria, Albania, Haiti, Lebanon or Ukraine.

Today, the deputies also approved a vote of regret for the death of actor Ricardo Peres, who died on Saturday, at the age of 49, victim of cancer.

"Ricardo Peres was an extraordinary actor and one of the most beloved names in improvisation theater in Portugal", emphasizes the vote of regret unanimously approved today, through which the Assembly of the Republic "expresses its deep sorrow for the death of Ricardo Peres and extends its deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends".

"In this moment of mourning, we pay homage not only to the memory of this magnificent artist, whose legacy and influence will endure in the history of Portuguese theater, but also to Ricardo Peres' contributions to art and culture in Portugal, as well as the impact of his personality and his work in the lives of many", it reads.

In the text, also presented by Chega, the deputies recall that the actor was part of "Commedia a La Carte" and the television program "5 para a meia-noite" and remember him as "an iconic figure in the world of humor and improvisation".
