According to a statement by the party, the initiative presented by deputy Nuno Barata aims to correspond "to an old request from taxi drivers in the region", regarding the alteration of the characteristics of taxi vehicles, namely their color, to "differentiate them from other motor vehicles, as happens in the national territory".

In the draft resolution, the IL/Açores parliamentarian recommends that the Regional Government of the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition proceed with an alteration to the regional regulations in force "regarding the licensing of taxi activity with a badge and standard color".

The proposal arises "due to the fact that the licensing of taxi activity in the Azores is a result of national legislation (...) applied by ordinances of the Regional Government (...) that have been in force since the end of the last century".

"It is the will of the agents of this activity sector in the region to alter the characteristics of the vehicles, namely the color (...), as happens in the national territory, but this claim has not been accepted by the competent government entities", refers Nuno Barata, quoted in the note.

In the draft resolution, the IL/Açores deputy recommends that the executive alter the ordinance "that defines the colors of vehicles licensed under the rental with driver regime".

For the party, taxis "should have the upper part of the vehicle in sea green color (...) and the lower part in black color".

According to the text of the proposal, "the change of color is only applicable to new vehicles to be used in taxi transport activity" and, until 31 December 2032, all vehicles "should comply with all of the provisions in terms of change of color".

The recommendation "results from meetings held between Nuno Barata and the representative entities of the taxi driver class in the Azores, and it is now up to the regional deputies to analyze and deliberate on this legislative initiative presented by IL/Açores".
