The award, which will be given for the first time this year, aims to recognise "personalities, projects and initiatives that contribute to progress and social cohesion", as stated in the press release published today by the Portuguese Centre for Foundations (CPF).

The award's sponsors are the Aga Khan, Bial, Bissaya Barreto, Calouste Gulbenkian, Champalimaud, Comendador Joaquim Sá Couto, Dom Pedro IV, Eugénio de Almeida, Francisco Manuel dos Santos, Manuel António da Mota, Millennium BCP, Oriente and Stanley Ho foundations.

In the Art and Science category, the award aims to "reward innovative approaches that integrate artistic and scientific elements in an impactful way"; in the Citizenship and Solidarity category, to recognise "civic action, promotion of social well-being and community support."

"The creation of the Foundations Award represents a significant advance in the sphere of institutional collaboration between foundations, this being the first time that the sector" has done so "in a concerted manner", according to the press release published today.

For the CPF president, Maria do Céu Ramos, quoted in the press release, "the union of efforts between foundations to reward science, culture and social impact is crucial", since "by working together, the foundations broaden their reach and enhance the impact of innovative projects."

Maria do Céu Ramos also believes that "this collaboration not only strengthens support for fundamental areas of society, but also inspires others to get involved in concrete actions that contribute to a more just and future-ready society."

The Foundations Award jury is composed of the jurist Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio, the political scientist Marina Costa Lobo, the commissioner of the National Arts Plan, Paulo Pires do Vale, the researcher Raquel Campos Franco and the university professor Zita Martins, a member of the European Space Agency.

The CPF adds that the Foundations Award will be officially presented next Thursday, 8 May, at the Grémio Literário, in Lisbon, at 11:30 am.

The regulations are available today on the CPF website: cpf.org.pt.
