Secretary of State for Communities begins official visit to Brazil today

The Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities begins an official seven-day visit to the Portuguese communities in Brazil today, with a working meeting at the residence of the Portuguese consul-general in São Paulo, the government announced.

In a statement released this afternoon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that, during the visit, José Cesário "will participate in several previously scheduled meetings and gatherings with local authorities, community advisors, and members of the communities in general".

The agenda for this Saturday includes a visit to the Lar da Provedoria da Comunidade Portuguesa to meet with the first provider and plan support for activities for the year 2024 and participation in an event commemorating April 25, promoted by the Consulate-General of Portugal in São Paulo (with the support of the Council of the Portuguese-Brazilian Community and the city government of São Paulo).

In addition, José Cesário will have a meeting at the Consulate-General of Portugal in São Paulo with advisors from the Portuguese communities (from São Paulo and Santos) and with the president of the Council of the Portuguese-Brazilian Community of the state of São Paulo.

On Sunday, the Secretary of State will visit the consular office in Santos and will meet with the president of the Portuguese School of that city, where he will also visit the Casa da Ilha da Madeira and the Portuguese Cultural Center.

A day later, the governor will be in Rio de Janeiro for a meeting with the advisors of the Portuguese communities and the president of the Luís de Camões Association, as well as with the Portuguese consul general in that city, among other items on the agenda.

On Tuesday, José Cesário's only agenda item is a meeting with the board of the Portuguese Association of Juiz de Fora to plan support for activities for the year 2024.

On May 1, the Secretary of State will travel to Belém do Pará, where he will be received by the president of the Council of the Portuguese-Brazilian Community and advisor to the communities, Luiz Octávio Rei Monteiro, and by the vice-consul, Maria Fernanda Pinheiro.

On the last day of the official trip to Brazil, the Secretary of State will meet with the state governor, Hélder Barbalho, and with the mayor of Belém do Pará, Edmilson Rodrigues, and a meeting with the president of the Hospital Beneficente Portuguesa, Alírio Gonçalves, and its board of directors is also scheduled.
