PSP seizes animals and plants in environmental defense operation
The PSP seized 46 species of native fauna and flora and 16 exotic species at the beginning of the week, as part of an operation to protect and preserve the environment, it was announced today.

In a statement released on the results of the "Operation Blue Planet", carried out nationwide on Monday and Tuesday, the PSP also said it had detected 64 offenses.
A report was made for crimes against nature, 43 reports for environmental offenses and 20 reports for various offenses. Reports act as complaints to the Public Ministry.
The operation, explained the PSP in the statement, was intended to reinforce the enforcement of the law regarding the conditions of reception and treatment of animals (pets and protected species), and regarding the safeguarding of water quality and defense of water resources.
Recalling that damage to nature is a crime, punishable by imprisonment for up to five years, the PSP warned of the need to verify, when buying (or receiving) an animal or plant, especially in the case of wild and non-native species, whether they are non-protected species or if they are at risk of extinction.
The operation was carried out by the Environmental Protection Brigades (BRIPA), which since 2015 have been involved in the Animal Defense project, especially dedicated to the protection of companion animals.
