João Lourenço made the announcement in a statement to the press, made at the end of the meeting at the official residence of the Portuguese Prime Minister, with Luís Montenegro.

The Angolan President, who is in Lisbon as part of the commemorations of April 25, said that he and the head of the Portuguese government understood it to be "a good opportunity for a first working meeting".

In this sense, delegations from the two countries agreed to hold a meeting of the intergovernmental joint commission soon in Lisbon, "which will, among other things, prepare the visit to Luanda by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, who has just received the (...) invitation to do so in the coming months, if possible as early as July".

Regarding bilateral relations, João Lourenço considered that "they are at their best".

"Although we have an obligation to never feel satisfied. We have to be ambitious enough to want more and more", he added.

For João Lourenço, "the strengthening of friendly relations between Angola and Portugal is a reciprocal ambition. It is from Angola but also from Portugal".

In the statement, without the right to questions, the Angolan President said that the two countries will work not only on bilateral issues, but also seek to align positions "on international policy issues that concern the world and particularly concern Angola and Portugal", without giving further details.

João Lourenço also stressed that Angola will support Portugal's candidacy for the UN Security Council.

"Obviously, Angola will support this candidacy", which is running for a seat for the 2027-2028 biennium.

"Therefore, in short, we must say that our relations are on the right track. The government of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro will continue what we have done so far and the ideal will be to strengthen it more and more", he stressed.

João Lourenço concluded by emphasizing that the ambition is for the two countries to reach "higher levels".

The meeting was attended by the heads of diplomacy of the two countries, Paulo Rangel, from Portugal, and Téte António, from Angola.
