The Public Security Police (PSP) identified, in a joint inspection action with several external entities, on April 19, 14 men, after a house was discovered in Lisbon, "where there were notorious traces of at least twenty-five people living there, using bunks", also raising "issues of danger and insalubrity".
Among the entities involved in this action are the Parish Council of Santo António, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, Tax Authority and Municipal Police of Lisbon".
The operation, explains the PSP in a statement, happened "following an anonymous complaint of overcrowding and insalubrity, where several foreign individuals resided".
"On site, after accessing the space, it was possible to verify fourteen people inside the house, where there were notorious traces of at least twenty-five people living there, using bunks", it reads.
During the inspection "four individuals were also detected, who, not proving to be in a regular situation in the National Territory, were referred to the Police Station in order to ascertain their situation with AIMA [Agency for Migration, Integration and Asylum], having been found that they already had expressions of interest".
As for the habitability issues, "despite there being clear indications that many people were living there", the PSP noted that they seemed "organized, not having raised issues of hygiene or insalubrity".
