The Ponta Delgada Hospital, in the Azores, has opened an inquiry after a hospitalized patient was found "lying on the ground" "outside the building" of the hospital unit, it was announced today.

In a short statement, the board of directors of the Hospital Divino Espírito Santo, in Ponta Delgada, revealed that it had learned of an "incident with a patient admitted to Medicine II" early this afternoon.
According to the press release, the clinical management was alerted to the "existence of a body lying on the ground, outside the hospital building".
"As for the specific circumstances of the occurrence, it is premature to provide explanations as the board of directors has already determined the opening of an investigation process," said the administration.
That health unit also ensures that "all means of assistance" were activated and that the patient was conscious.
"All medical and nursing assistance were activated, as well as the police authorities. The patient was conscious and hemodynamically stable, and remains under medical observation," concludes the note sent to the newsrooms.
