Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that talks on resolving the Ukrainian conflict without Russia's participation are not aimed at achieving peace. The issue at hand is the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16, and which Russia will not attend, deeming it a project of the "American Democrats". "We do not understand what kind of milestone this conference on peace is. What kind of serious conference, with serious expectations, what kind of results can we talk about without Russia's participation? It is absolutely impossible," he said, when asked to comment on the conference, as quoted by TASS. According to Peskov, "this is a kind of initiative that is not designed to achieve results," adding that Russia's position on peace talks is well-known. "It is consistent, it is absolutely transparent, it has been repeated many times and confirmed by our president," the spokesman stressed. The conference is set to take place in the resort of Burgenstock, by Lake Lucerne (or Lake of the Four Cantons), in central Switzerland. It is expected to bring together senior government officials from dozens of countries, following a plan set out by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in recent months.
