"Iran is invulnerable to sanctions and sanctions have never been successful in Iran. With the iron will of this nation, [sanctions] will never be successful," Ebrahim Raisi said at the opening of Iran Expo 2024, quoted by the state news agency IRNA.

The President described the sanctions as "a kind of war" and a symbol of "oppression against governments and nations".

On Monday, the European Union agreed on sanctions against the manufacture of Iranian missiles and drones and their transfer to Russia.

The US also imposed restrictions on 16 companies and eight individuals linked to Tehran's drone programme and its shipments to Russia.

These measures were decided after Tehran launched hundreds of missiles and drones against Israeli territory, in retaliation for the offensive against its consulate in Syria.
