The attack aimed to "paralyze" the supply of military provisions, some of which were sent by Western countries to help Kyiv fight Russia, according to a Ukrainian official quoted by the French news agency AFP.

The same source added that Moscow has carried out a series of attacks on Ukrainian railroads, noting that such actions "are classic measures before an offensive."

The goal "is to paralyze deliveries, the transport of military cargo," he said.

The Russian army, meanwhile, announced that it had hit a train in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk (east) that was carrying Western weapons to be delivered to Kyiv.

"A train carrying weapons and Western military equipment was hit near the city of Udachne," the Russian Defense Ministry said, without providing further details on the outcome of the attack.

Ukraine has relied on financial and military aid from Western allies since Russia invaded the country on February 24, 2022.
