Kenya Airways, known by its initials KQ, said on Thursday that its staff were being held at its offices at the capital's airport, Kinshasa, over missing documentation for cargo that the airline had refused to accept. The cargo has been described as "valuable" but its contents have not been disclosed. "All efforts to explain to the military that KQ had not accepted the cargo due to incomplete documentation have been futile," the airline's chief executive, Allan Kilavuka, said in a statement. The staff members' mobile phones have been confiscated and colleagues and embassy officials have only been allowed brief access to the detainees. The airline said it had filed an application for the release of the staff with the military court, which was granted on Thursday. "Despite the court order, the military intelligence unit continues to hold them incommunicado," the statement said. The airline has appealed to the Kenyan and Congolese governments to intervene to resolve the issue, but neither government has commented so far. Kenya and the DRC have cordial relations, with Kenya contributing troops to UN-backed peacekeeping missions in Congo. Read also: Torrential rains in Kenyan capital kill 10
