"The Ministry of Health warns against the spread of many diseases and epidemics as a result of the overflow of sewage in the streets and among the tents of the displaced, and due to the lack of sufficient drinking water available," the entity said in a statement posted on the social network Facebook.
According to the authorities of the Gaza Strip, these conditions "threaten to cause a health disaster", especially among children, and "numerous cases" of meningitis or hepatitis have already been detected among the local population.
"We appeal to all interested international and humanitarian institutions to intervene quickly," the ministry said.
The Gaza Strip has been the target of frequent bombings by Israel since Hamas attacked Israeli territory on October 7, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking almost 240 hostages.
In retaliation, Israel promised to destroy the Palestinian Islamist movement and launched an offensive that has already killed more than 34,000 people - most of them civilians - and injured more than 70,000.
The Israeli offensive has also destroyed most of Gaza's infrastructure and nearly two million people have been forced to leave their homes, or almost all of the 2.3 million inhabitants of the enclave, controlled by Hamas since 2007.
The population of the Gaza Strip is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis due to the collapse of hospitals, shortages of drinking water, food, medicines and electricity.
