Ukrainian drones hit "two oil depots" that "were storing 26,000 cubic meters of fuel" during the operation organized by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the same source said, who was not identified.

Ukraine's action takes place in a context of tensions with Washington, which has publicly criticized Kyiv's attacks on energy facilities in Russian territory.

Hours earlier, the regional governor of Smolensk, Vasily Anokhin, stated that several energy facilities in the region had been destroyed by fires caused by attacks with Ukrainian 'drones'.

"Our region was once again targeted by attacks from Ukrainian 'drones'," the governor wrote on social media.

"As a result of the enemy attack [Ukraine] started fires", added the governor, without providing more details about the affected locations.

The attack did not cause any victims, added the same local Russian official.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations sent rescue teams to the scene.

Also today, another 'drone' attack targeted the special economic zone in the city of Lipetsk, also about 400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, but further south, which houses a number of metallurgical and pharmaceutical companies, said the region's governor, Igor Artamonov.

"The criminal regime in Kyiv attempted to attack the infrastructure of the Lipetsk industrial zone," said Artamonov. The governor did not report any victims and assured that residential areas are not threatened.

In recent months, the Ukrainian army has intensified drone attacks on Russian territory, mainly targeting facilities linked to the energy sector.
