The Spanish Guardia Civil has arrested two people in Murcia, Spain, suspected of importing olive oil from Portugal, which was then marketed with counterfeit labeling, without health registration or traceability documentation.

In the operation, called 'Almazara', the authorities seized 400 liters of olive oil that did not comply with current regulations.

According to the Spanish press, the investigation began last March, when the Guardia Civil was alerted by the public to possible counterfeit labels that were being used to sell olive oil in different municipalities in the Guadalentín region.

Initially, the civil guards went to a retail store in the municipality of Alhameño, where they found five-liter bottles of olive oil with a counterfeit label for sale, which the owners of the establishment said had been purchased from a distributor.

The Guardia Civil thus established the main line of investigation on the olive oil distributor, located in a house in Librilla. It was in the garage of this house that a large number of unlabeled bottles of olive oil were found.

Once the evidence was gathered, the authorities arrested two people for crimes against public health and food fraud, suspected of being behind the import of olive oil from Portugal and its subsequent marketing and distribution with counterfeit labeling.
