Macau registers over 8.8 million visitors in the first quarter of the year
Macau recorded the entry of more than 8.8 million visitors in the first quarter of the year, up 79.4% compared to the same period in 2023, according to data released today.

This number of visitor arrivals (8,875,757) represents a recovery of 85.7% compared to the same period in 2019, the last year before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a statement from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
In the first quarter of the year, the number of excursionists (4,791,721) increased by 107.5% and that of tourists (4,084,036) by 54.8%, year-on-year.
The majority of visitors between January and March continue to be from China: 6,291,912, or 94.3% more, in annual terms, of which 3,469,957 were visitors with individual visas (+68.3%), said the DSEC.
After three years of strict restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the territory reopened its borders to all foreigners, including tourists, from 8 January 2023.
