Alice was born on December 31, 2021, in Saint-Quetin, in the north of France, with 26 fingers, no thumbs on her hands and a foot on her knee. Since then, she has been in and out of hospitals, undergoing not only tests but also surgeries, including the amputation of a leg.

But it's not over yet. In May, she will have to amputate the other one and, in October, the doctors will try to make her a thumb with one of her extra fingers.

To the French newspaper L'Aisne, the parents explained that their daughter, who is 2 years old, suffers from Laurin-Sandrow syndrome, an extremely rare genetic disease that causes fetuses to develop malformations.

In Alice's case, the malformations are considered very serious, leading doctors to admit that they have never seen anything like it.

The parents now admit to suing the obstetrician who failed to detect these problems before birth. "Our daughter has more than 80% disability, we did not choose this life, nor to have a disabled daughter. Our life is hell every day," Mickaël told the French newspaper, adding that they had ultrasounds "every month", since they had been trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant for two years, and the doctor never even mentioned this possibility.

Despite this, the couple tries to give Alice as normal a life as possible. The grandparents take care of her while the parents work, since no daycare accepts her, which makes her a little behind the children of the same age who go to school and socialize. However, they do not give up and maintain hope "in the continuous advances of medicine" and in the "growing solidarity around these rare cases".

For now, they ask for support for a wheelchair and for the possible prostheses that the girl will need after a few more surgeries.
