The Danish ferry was sailing from a port on the island of Zealand towards Aarhus on the mainland when it was forced to make a sharp turn to avoid coming too close to the Russian ship, the Jyllands Posten newspaper reports.
According to Molslinjen's communications director, Jesper Maack, the captain of the ferry tried to make contact with the Russian ship, but it was not possible to establish radio contact, and the Danish vessel therefore chose to follow safety procedure and perform an evasive manoeuvre at a safe distance from the warship. The company's communications director downplayed the matter, stressing that the incident "was not dramatic" and that none of the passengers were injured. The Danish Defence Command confirmed the incident, although it is not known how close the ship came to the other vessel. According to these sources, in this situation it should have been the Russian ship that performed the necessary manoeuvres to avoid a collision, but this did not happen, so the Danish ferry took action. The incident has been reported to the Danish Maritime Authority. According to photographs shared by some of those on board the ferry and collected by the Danish newspaper, the Russian warship belongs to the Neustrashimi class, a class of large frigates originally built for the Soviet Navy and which in some cases still serve in the Baltic Fleet.
