A recent study by an international team, published in Nature Mental Health, found that eating a healthy, balanced diet may improve brain health and mental well-being.
To reach their conclusions, the researchers analyzed the dietary choices of nearly 200,000 UK Biobank participants, along with a range of physical assessments, including cognitive function, blood tests, brain imaging, and genetics.

They were divided into four groups: those who followed diets without starchy foods (subtype 1); vegetarian diets (subtype 2); high-protein, low-fiber diets (subtype 3); and balanced diets (subtype 4). A type of artificial intelligence called machine learning helped the researchers analyze the large dataset.
Based on their findings, the researchers concluded that "individuals with balanced dietary patterns showed better mental health and superior cognitive function compared with the other three dietary subtypes." It's important to note that genetic factors may contribute to the association between diet and brain health.
