What snoring can do to your oral health:

  • You're more at risk of oral infections. He explains that when you snore throughout the night, you breathe through your mouth which reduces your production of saliva. As a result, "a lack of saliva increases your risk of oral infections" and having a constantly dry mouth often leads to "tooth decay and gum disease";
  • Gum disease and gingivitis. In case you didn't know, "gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease, which is caused by a build-up of plaque, tartar and bacteria on the teeth, leading to red, swollen and bleeding gums";
  • Tooth loss. Sadly, "severe gum disease, or periodontitis, weakens the soft tissue that supports your teeth, meaning in severe cases you could lose teeth";
  • Bad breath. "Snoring dries out your mouth and robs it of its natural defence of saliva, which is essential for fighting off bacteria and keeping your teeth and gums clean."
