The National Union of Railway Sector Workers (SNTSF) held a plenary session with Medway workers today in Barreiro, Lisbon.

"[...] There is a consensus that the path will continue to be the decision of forms of struggle that may happen soon. We are working in this direction and there is great dissatisfaction on the part of the workers in relation to the company's position in this negotiation process", Abílio Carvalho of SNTSF told Lusa.

The strike actions are not yet closed, since the union will continue to meet with workers from other regions, but these should advance "before the summer", as he said.

Medway's management proposes a 3.5% salary increase, below what the workers consider fair.

The union recalled that some professional categories had an increase in functions, which was not accompanied by an appreciation of salaries.

On the other hand, he mentioned problems in the service schedules and in the organization of working time.

"Some workers are being contacted during their rest period to change services, which has worried the workers, namely those at stations and trains", he exemplified.

According to the union, in the last meeting between the two parties, which took place on the 17th, the company communicated the closure of the negotiation process, a decision that the union contests.

After the conclusion of the plenary sessions, SNTSF will communicate the workers' decision to Medway.

"We will see, in the future, what the company's position is. We understand that the company has all the conditions to reopen this negotiation process", concluded Abílio Carvalho.

Medway workers went on strike on March 28th.

Lusa contacted Medway, but received no response.
