State Debt Increases by 0.4% in March to 287,205 Million
The balance of the State's direct debt increased by 0.4% at the end of March to 287,205 million euros, due to the increase in the value of treasury bills, announced the IGCP -- Treasury and Public Debt Management Agency.

"On March 31, 2024, the balance of the State's direct debt amounted to 287,205 million euros, an increase of 0.4% compared to the previous month", reads a note from the IGCP.
This variation was influenced by the increase in the balance of Treasury bills (BT) by 1,037 million euros, with issues (1,872 million euros) exceeding redemptions (834 million euros).
The increase in the balance of Treasury bonds (OT) also weighed on this evolution by 1,001 million euros, as a result of issues made during the month.
On the other hand, the outstanding balance of other instruments increased by 750 million euros, "with the disbursement of a credit line in the same amount".
The IGCP also reported a decrease in the balance of Treasury certificates (CT) by 104 million and in savings certificates by 21 million euros.
In this period, the balance of Special Short-Term Debt Certificates (CEDIC) decreased by 1,584 million euros.
The counterparts of margin accounts have already contracted by four million euros.
"Incorporating the favorable exchange rate effect of the derivatives hedge, corresponding to the notional value of the capital hedge 'swaps', which amounted to 62 million euros in March, the total value of the debt after exchange rate hedge was 287,143 million, that is, an increase of 0.4%", it said.
