"The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) is aware that some taxpayers are receiving email messages supposedly from the AT in which they are asked to click on 'links' that are provided", refers the notice published in the Portal das Finanças.

As usual in these situations, the AT shares examples of these false messages, namely one in which the "Dear customer" is informed that "you are entitled to a refund of 250.20 euros".

In another of these false messages, the "Dear taxpayer" is informed "that your IRS Return, submitted on 04/10/2024, was considered invalid", and in another the "Dear Luís" is informed that "due to a change" the AT "recalculated your taxes" and that "48.84 euros will be returned to you due to overpayment".

All these messages include a false 'link', with instructions for the taxpayer to access it. And it is precisely this step that the AT emphasizes should not be taken under any circumstances.

"These messages are false and should be ignored. Their purpose is to convince the recipient to access malicious pages by clicking on the suggested 'links'. You should never do this", emphasizes the AT.

Since the beginning of this year, this is the fifth time that the AT has warned of the existence of fraudulent messages.
