Five factors to consider when choosing the best salary account

Salary accounts are demand accounts that include a set of specific advantages for those who can receive their income through them, according to DECO PROteste. If you are looking for the best solution for you, you have come to the right article.
"The offer of salary accounts is quite varied and the conditions depend on each institution. These accounts have been replaced by package accounts, with a set of associated products and services, but with a fixed monthly cost. Before joining, check if the benefits included meet your usage profile. For example, is it worth paying a monthly fee to have free bank transfers, if you make few or none per month?", questions DECO PROteste, in a statement published on its website.
According to the consumer protection organization, to hire the product that best suits your needs, you should request information from different banks and compare the conditions of the different accounts.
Here are five factors you should consider:
- interest rate for using the authorized overdraft (the lower the better, since there is a maximum limit that banks can practice and which is set and published quarterly by the Bank of Portugal – 19% in the second quarter of 2024);
- exemption from maintenance costs;
- interest rate on the account balance remuneration;
- advantages in subscribing to other products;
- possibility of limiting the authorized overdraft.
