"It is the main reason for our struggle. It makes no sense to see FC Porto any other way than as a members' club. We are very pleased that this way of thinking is being propagated by the candidates for the board, but we are a little more demanding on this point, on which the Superior Council has the power to act directly and does not depend on anyone," observed the lawyer and university professor, in an interview with the Lusa agency.

In the first of the 10 proposals included in its manifesto, the list "For a greater, united, unsubmissive and eclectic FC Porto" speaks of the "statutory consecration of the insurmountable principle of majority control" of SAD by the club, refusing to admit "concessions or hesitations".

"It is a structural vision. FC Porto was born and established itself as a members' club. We want it to continue that way and that is why we are going to fight. We believe that the Superior Council should play an active role in this matter, in the sense of preparing a statutory amendment in which this is unequivocal," established Miguel Brás da Cunha.

The candidacy for the consultative body wants to reduce financial debt, which it points out as the "main risk factor" to the retention of the 74.59% held by the club in SAD, without compromising the competitiveness and sustainability of the national football runner-up.

"The financial broth is completely spilled without sporting capacity. We have to have a strategy to gradually reduce the debt. That is, to establish almost a kind of internal [financial] fair-play. UEFA does not require it, but the club should have this long-term strategy. I would even like to see this commitment being quantified by the various candidates for the board," asked Luís Folhadela Rebelo, number two on list D.

Another impactful proposal is to extend "in absolute security and reliability" the methods and places of voting in general assemblies to spaces complementary to the Estádio do Dragão and the Dragão Arena pavilion, provided that "a reliable result is guaranteed".

"What we defend is to extend voting to places where it makes sense. Furthermore, all voting methods, whether by proxy, correspondence or electronically, must be absolutely secure, reliable and inviolable. For us, this is insurmountable. What does not seem appropriate to us for the greatness of the club is to continue to force people to have to travel or, in certain cases, even prevent them from exercising their vote at one of the most important moments in the club's associative life," stressed Miguel Brás da Cunha.

The manifesto is silent on the limitation of mandates defended in 2020, a measure that the lawyer accepts "could contribute to the proper functioning of an organization, even if it does not mean "one of the most important aspects" for the future of FC Porto.

In this horizon, the growth of eclecticism contemplates a "double face" between professional sports - whose "culture of victory" should be accompanied by gradual female representation, considering the launch of new sports -, and leisure/social sports.

Encouraging the participation of members in the club's associative life and in sporting, social and cultural events, collaborating with social solidarity projects and accentuating the inclusion of people with disabilities are other perspectives, in addition to the "uncompromising defense" of FC Porto as an "unsubmissive leader in the fight against corruption in sports and centralism".

"The club can never give up this fight, because it has established itself that way and it is part of its genesis not to accept that organizations transform it into something that admits everything," he stressed.
