Bayer Leverkusen confirmed this Sunday the (unprecedented) conquest of German champion by thrashing Werder Bremen (5-0), in a game of the 29th round of the Bundesliga. The team led by Xabi Alonso thus makes history and puts an end to the 11-year cycle of consecutive titles for Bayern Munich.

Victor Boniface opened the scoring at 25 minutes, through a penalty, and made the BayArena breathe a sigh of relief.

The remaining goals came in the second half, with Granit Xhaka opening the book at 60 minutes, with a great goal, before Florian Wirtz scored twice (68' and 83').

After the fourth goal of the match, the second by Wirtz, the fans got excited and ended up starring in a small invasion of the pitch. It was the players themselves who had to appeal for calm and redirect the fans to the stands in order not to cause any type of suspension that would postpone the party that was being prepared.

Even before the final whistle, Wirtz (90') still managed to get a hat-trick, with another goal that led to a new invasion of the pitch.

All things considered, Bayer Leverkusen has accumulated 79 points after 29 rounds, with five more to go before the championship is completed. Bayern Munich, the usual champion, has 16 fewer points and is in second place, with the same number of points as Stuttgart, which closes the podium.

Bayer Leverkusen had already won a championship title in the second division, but had never managed it in the top division. There are now 13 teams that have managed to be crowned Bundesliga champions.

Bayern Munich, of course, remains far ahead of the competition, with a total of 32 titles out of a total of 61.

It should be noted that Bayer Leverkusen still has the possibility of winning the German Cup this season and is also well on its way to reaching the Europa League final.
