Ricardo Paiva demands attitude to retake Boavista's identity in Arouca

Boavista wants to recover its football identity when visiting Arouca, on Sunday, on the 29th round of the I League, said today the coach Ricardo Paiva, hoping to correct the stance shown by the 'black and whites' in the defeat in Faro.

"This attitude from the first half cannot be repeated, also because it is against what Boavista is. The focus was on our game and our behavior. We identified the opponent and prepared ourselves for the setbacks that will naturally cause us, but, above all, [we paid attention] to ourselves so that we can reclaim our identity and a behavior that lives up to the history and mystique of Boavista", he framed, at a press conference.

The Bessa team has not won in three games and returned to defeats in the previous round, when they lost to Farense (2-0), having conceded two goals before the break, at a time when the video referee (VAR) had already acted to cancel two other goals for the Algarve team.

"When you do not bring rigor and concentration to the levels that the demand of the duel requires, situations identical to those seen in the first half happen. We corrected that [at half-time], we changed and there we returned to having more concentration, availability, identity and attitude. Our response ended up, naturally, being different", stressed Ricardo Paiva.

Without winning away from home for six matches - four defeats and two draws - Boavista now returns to Arouca, where they were eliminated almost five months ago in the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup through a penalty shootout (4-3, after 2-2 at the end of 120 minutes), in a match that marked Daniel Sousa's debut in command of the 'wolves'.

"We took precautions for the offensive issues of the opponent, as well as exploring their defensive aspects, but I emphasize this point: our concern was to ensure that rigor and concentration accompanied the demand of the match and the history of the club we represent. We tried to bring everyone to the same level, making them understand that we are united in the search for a positive result. Proof of this is the support of the fans. We want to give a positive response for them and bring our image to the top, showing that we are united and determined to achieve the goal", he reiterated.

The 'panthers' are trying to reach the 30-point barrier, with six rounds left to play and are in 11th place, with 29 points, eight above the automatic relegation zone and only three more than the play-off access spot for maintenance.

"Up to that point, we must continue with the work and internal issues and not focus on mathematical issues. We want to continue our path, but always looking at the goal, based on what is the weekly work, in order to be able to live up to our expectations, defend our image with a dignified, competitive and professional attitude and achieve a good result in the games", concluded Ricardo Paiva.

If Luís Pires, César, Júlio Dabó and Gonçalo Almeida remain injured, Sebastián Pérez has already recovered from the gastric outbreak manifested last week and is fit, as are Salvador Agra and Miguel Reisinho, who had missed the clash in Faro due to suspension.

Boavista, 11th place, with 29 points, eight above the direct relegation zone, visits Arouca, seventh, with 40, on Sunday, starting at 6 pm, at the Arouca Municipal Stadium, for the 29th round of the I League, refereed by Carlos Macedo, from the Braga association.
