Luís Mendes, Benfica's vice-president, gave an interview to BTV and to the newspaper Eco, on Monday, to give an account of the eagles' process regarding the sale of players, even speaking of an "unquestionable" obligation.

"Any SAD is obliged to sell players, that is unquestionable. If we check, 90% to 95% of European clubs sell players, they all need to sell players to balance accounts. Even Real Madrid itself, last year, had to make player sales to balance accounts. It is normal for this to happen, it is part of our investment strategy. If we want to invest in new players, in our training, we naturally have to sell players," he began by saying.

"Sales of João Neves and António Silva for the values of the termination clause? Benfica has to sell players, but what has to be analysed at the right time is what the market offers these players, player A, B or C, and then make its decisions," he added next, before being confronted with a possible scenario of pressure to sell.

"Benfica is not pressured to sell, because it has a situation of equity that allows it to accommodate a loss, even if slight. That is not what will scare us, that is not what will determine the sale of a player. It is not saying 'I need to make a profit and then I will sell quickly', not at all," he completed on the subject.
