Benfica invested heavily, not only in the summer market - in which the transfer record was broken by the now 'unloved' Orkun Kokçu, for 25 million euros - but also in January, with the arrivals of Marcos Leonardo, for 18 million euros, Gianluca Prestianni, for nine million, the loan of Álvaro Carreras and, finally, Benjamín Rollheiser.

The Argentine winger arrives in a deal with increasingly common contours in European football, a loan with a mandatory purchase option at the end, to circumvent the limits of financial fair play. It cost one million for the assignment, plus nine and a half million to be debited next season.

Despite this strong investment, which culminates in 37.5 million in transfers alone, none of these players became a starter with Roger Schmidt. Rollheiser will be the one with the greatest patience of the January reinforcements. The Argentine has played only 23 minutes since he arrived, and many Benfica fans have not yet had the chance to see him in action. Carreras, Marcos Leonardo and even Prestianni, in the B team, have more minutes in their legs.

The player only entered games won by Benfica, with safe results. He was released for the last minutes of the trip to Amadora, in the reception to Gil Vicente and Vizela, and 15 minutes in Luz, against Estoril Praia. Always in moments of result management. The last participation in the field was on March 10th.

From 'horse to donkey'. He played 57 games for Estudiantes in 2023

This is a 360-degree change in Rollheiser's competitive landscape, who, in Argentina, was considered one of the best players in the league. In the 2023 season, he played 57 games for Estudiantes de la Plata, always being a starter.

The last match he played from the start was the final of the Argentine Cup, won by Estudiantes, in December. Throughout the season, he scored 12 goals and assisted seven others, being considered one of the best players in the country, which produces so many 'jewels' for European football. At 24, he has four titles on his resume.

It remains to be seen whether, after the end of the season, and with the new pre-season, Benjamín Rollheiser will be in time to 'catch the train'. Changing country, continent and competitive demand is always difficult. Conquering the trust of Roger Schmidt even more so.
