The less-credentialed Martínez, 77th in the world ranking, defied the favoritism of the top seed, winning with the partials of 6-4, 4-6 and 6-4, in three hours and eight minutes.

The 26-year-old Spaniard will play the decisive match of an ATP tournament for the third time in his career, having a duel scheduled with the Polish Hubert Hurkacz, who today defeated the Chilean Cristian Garín in the other semi-final (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), in the final scheduled for Sunday, at the Estoril Tennis Club.
