Australian Kyrgios missed all four majors in 2023 due to wrist, knee and ankle injuries and has played just one ATP Tour match since October 2022. As a result, the former Wimbledon finalist said in January that he was considering quitting tennis. But speaking on the Australian Open Show podcast, Kyrgios, 28, said he is ready to resume his career.

"It was definitely one of the toughest years of my life, tennis-wise," Kyrgios said, as quoted by the BBC. "I had some really tough conversations with myself, whether I wanted to keep doing this. So I know there's still a fire in the belly, which is good, which is healthy." After so many injury problems, Kyrgios is being cautious about setting a timetable for his playing return.

"I'm going to hit for the first time next week, so once I get back on the court, I think I'll start building, getting the load back into my wrist and my body," Kyrgios said.

"But I'll definitely be back. It's just hard to put an exact date on it because the injury was pretty severe." An outstandingly talented player, Kyrgios added that he wants to enjoy his tennis again after such a difficult period of rehabilitation.
