The jury, which unanimously awarded the prize, considers that in the work of Joan Manuel Serrat "the art of poetry and music come together in the service of tolerance, the sharing of values, the richness of the diversity of languages and cultures and a desire for freedom".

Joan Manuel Serrat, born in Barcelona in 1943, is considered one of the pioneers of the Catalan 'new song', which rose up against the repression of the Franco regime, and is the author of "Mediterráneo", considered one of the best songs in Spanish music of all time, wrote the Efe agency.

Serrat, who retired from the stage in 2021, has recorded more than 500 songs, released more than 40 albums and sung poets such as Miguel Hernández, Pablo Neruda, Mario Benedetti and Federico Garcia Lorca.
