"Medina is the author of the artificial debt reduction with this trick"

The parliamentary leader of the CDS has already reacted to the approval of the urgent hearing of the former Minister of Finance Fernando Medina, current PS deputy, in Parliament, so that he can provide explanations on the reduction of public debt.
"The former Minister of Finance Fernando Medina was the author of this strategy of artificial reduction of debt with this trick and, therefore, we understand that the former minister must come to Parliament, must come to the Budget and Finance Committee to give full explanations on this matter", said Paulo Núncio, in an intervention made from the Assembly of the Republic (AR).
According to the vice-president of the CDS, the decision to call Fernando Medina to Parliament was "approved unanimously", something that the centrist party "welcomes".
"We effectively consider that these serious facts must be explained by the author of the debt reduction strategy, which was in fact an absolutely artificial reduction", he said.
It should be recalled that, last week, UTAO warned that the reduction of public debt in 2023 was "artificial" and that there are cases in which financial management options were conditioned by guidelines from the previous Government.
The public debt ratio was set at 99.1% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023 and in nominal terms decreased by 9.3 billion euros compared to the previous year, to 263.1 billion euros.

Regarding the resignation of the executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), Paulo Núncio said that what he knows is that the Minister of Health and that he asked for a report from Fernando Araújo and "that report, according to what is public, was not delivered". "The executive director of the SNS, instead of presenting the report, decided to submit his resignation", he stressed, adding that "this is a decision that is only up to him".
