"If it weren't for the CDS, the Prime Minister would be called Pedro Nuno Santos"

The Secretary of State for Internal Administration, Telmo Correia, today defended a "significant improvement" in the salaries of the security forces and "regulated immigration", considering that if it were not for the CDS-PP, "the Prime Minister would be called Pedro Nuno Santos".

"We are talking about better equipment, better protection, better working conditions, but let's not hide, let's be clear and let it be said: we are also talking about ensuring that those who are responsible for our security, whether in the security forces or in the Armed Forces, have a significant improvement in their salary conditions. That is why we will fight for it", defended Telmo Correia.

The vice-president of CDS-PP and government official spoke before the party's 31st Congress, which takes place today and Sunday in Viseu, also defending that "offences and attacks against security forces must and should be punished more seriously and more severely".

Telmo Correia added that CDS-PP is not against the objective need that employers have for foreign labour, but defended a "regulated and demanding immigration" under the motto "rigour in entry, humanity in integration".

In his speech, which lasted about fifteen minutes, the former deputy highlighted the party's current weight in the PSD/CDS minority government, led by Luís Montenegro.

"The weight of CDS is as simple as us knowing that if it weren't for CDS, the prime minister instead of being called Luís Montenegro, would be called, to our misfortune, Pedro Nuno Santos [secretary-general of PS]", he considered.

The centrist asked not to forget that the party's main adversary "is the left, PS, PCP and the far left".

Telmo Correia stressed before the great meeting that CDS is a party of "institutionalism" and of "remembering and recognising", recalling one of the party's founders, Professor Adriano Moreira.

"On the 50th anniversary of CDS, by video, at the age of 100, Professor Adriano Moreira asked us «never give up, do not abandon, do not stop fighting». And we gathered here can say, Mr. Professor, we did not give up, here we are, we honour your legacy, the party is here, it is alive and it is capable of continuing to fight", he exclaimed.
