"She looked us in the eyes and looked at us as partners and not as adversaries. That was what happened in the other negotiations. We were seen as an adversary who was on the other side of the table", said the president of the Independent Union of Nursing Professionals (SIPE), Fernando Mendes Parreira, criticizing the previous socialist guardianship.

Fernando Parreira was speaking to journalists after the leaders of SIPE, the Nurses' Union (SE), the Democratic Union of Nurses of Portugal (SINDEPOR), the Independent Union of All United Nurses (SITEU), and the National Union of Nurses (SNE) met with Ana Paula Martins for about an hour and a half this afternoon at the Ministry of Health in Lisbon.

"There was openness on the part of the minister to try to solve the problems affecting Portuguese nursing. Our commitment to nursing was delivered, common to these five unions, where we have our demands that we intend to see negotiated in a short period of time", he stressed.
